Week of June 9

Projects for the week:

1. Rescore scenes from silent films.
I've chosen the opening scene from Metropolis and the scene of the first murder from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The Metropolis scene incorporates several rhythmic visual elements that will need to be reflected in the score. I'd also like the score to expand upon the futuristic setting and show the contrast between the grandiose buildings and the difficult lives of the workers. The Caligari scene will need a score that shifts according to the mood of the three segments within: a murder, the grief of friends, and the suspicion of a suspect.

2. Continue working on the opening montage in Reaper.
I have a new, slightly shorter version of the scene to work on, and I need to rewrite the score so that the visual changes dictate the shifts in mood. Nathan suggested I experiment with contrasting between a driving, rhythmic layer and a slow, sustained layer. All in all, the score needs to smooth over transitions and make the scene seem shorter and more unified.
